Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)
Abdominoplasty is a plastic surgery procedure to remove excess skin and fat from the abdomen to improve its contour and make it more aesthetically pleasing. Bulging of the abdomen can occur due to several reasons such as pregnancy, weight gain, weight loss, aging and skin laxity. Regardless of the cause, there are three components that need to be addressed in order to achieve optimal outcome: Skin, fat and muscle.
“With a great aesthetic sense and attention to details abdominoplasty can be one of the most rewarding body contouring procedures. This procedure is more than removing skin and fat and creating a tight drum-like abdomen. The goal is to sculpt the abdomen, recreate curves with smooth transition to hips. Achieving this goal requires liposuction of the abdomen and sometimes back along with tightening of the abdominal muscles, leaving a narrow scar in the bikini line. Achieving this while avoiding surgical stigmata is what distinguishes a perfect from a very good result.”
-Dr. Michael Hakimi
Mini tummy tuck is a variation of the traditional tummy tuck that only addresses the mild skin laxity below the belly button with very mild muscle laxity. This procedure does not improve bulging specially above the belly button.
Extended tummy tuck is also another variation of the traditional tummy tuck for patients whose excess skin and fat extends to flanks. This will require a longer incision to improve the flank rolls without causing cutaneous deformities (dog ears.)
As in any body contouring procedures, Dr. Hakimi will make sure that patient’s weight has been stable and there is plan for maintenance around the same weight. Any weight gain or loss could alter and lessen the aesthetic outcome.
